Out of the Mouths of Hendersons

Funny little things the kids have said lately.

Maddy was in her room listening to her Christmas CD Matthew made them, when I peeked in to check on her. She asked me to come in and she quickly caught me with her "What can we talk about?" - that will pretty much stop me dead in my tracks no matter what I am doing because I know that means she just wants me and her time. I told her she could pick and she quickly asked me what "wag" was. I explained about a dog wagging it's tail, but that was not what she wanted so she asked about wagons. I told her like the ones you ride in, but that was not it either - she impatiently said "NO! Like in'wag Christmas' - like on my CD". She apparently misunderstood Bing Crosby, so when I explained to her what a WHITE Christmas was, she was quick to let me know that was kinda silly because it does not snow on Christmas! And as long as she lives in Texas, she is going to certainly be right about that.

We were watching Ice Age 2 with the kids at my moms house and there is a part where the squirrel has apparently "passed from this earth" and finds himself at the "pearly gates". Sam asked Matthew if the squirrel had died and Matthew told him they would have to watch and see. When they showed the squirrel coming up to the gates, there was a giant golden acorn on them, and that was when Sam realized it was "just a dream". He told Matthew he knew that because the real gates have a big cross on them, not an acorn. Makes perfectly good sense to me!

Back to Work

The house is eerily quiet this morning. The big kids have gone back to school, Matthew has returned to work and Kathy's girl are not here yet. So, it is just me and Philip here to say goodbye to our Thanksgiving holiday break and get ready for a busy, busy week of studying to wrap up this semester. We had a great Thanksgiving getting to see everyone, it was the first year in a while that Matthew's whole family was together so that was nice to get to see and visit with everyone. My mom had to work alot, unfortunately, I know it is so hard on here when her schedule is like that on the hoildays. But, she should have a great Christmas schedule, so I am looking forward to that!

Philip was a little off this week, running fever (possibly cutting more teeth) and getting a stuffy nose. But, he still managed to entertain everyone and capture quite a few hearts! Matthew got to take some time off to relax and play some computer games with his brother (which he never does except over the holidays!). And I got to sleep in a couple of times - that was great! This morning on the way to school I asked the kids what was their favorite part of Thanksgiving. Sam was proud to announce his was eating the pies he helped bake (especially pumpkin), Luke liked playing with all his cousins and Maddy (my undecisive one) finally said playing ball with Pepaw and playing with the girls at Manana's was her favorite.

We have so much to be thankful for, this has been a good year and we are truly blessed. Now bring on Christmas!!!
