Woosh...

That is the sound of our summer flying by this year. The days and weeks are just flying by, I can't believe that the kids will start school in less than three weeks now. I had high expectations for our summer, lots of playing outside, hours of reading books with the kids, trips to the library and parks, bike rides in the evenings and lots of other stuff. Needless to say, we were more in "survival mode" than I expected and didn't do alot of those things. But, I can honestly say the kids have had a fun and relaxing summer and will be ready to get the school year started. We took a trip to Target to get all their school supplies last week. Sam thought it was so fun and wanted tp pick his own stuff to put in the basket.

We had unexpected fun times - our last minute decision to take the kids to the circus earlier this month, and the boys getting to go see Superman with Matthew in Waco. The have built endless things with their Legos and Megablocks, done a million puzzles, made crazy pictures on their Lite Brites, drawn enough pictures to wallpaper our whole house, and probably watched more TV than they needed. I guess I learned that they are as happy just being instaed of doing, doing, doing. I find myself incredibly blessed to have been able to stay home with them during their pre-school years, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Maddy and Sam will be in separate classes for the first time in their lives (they are always together in Bible classes and Sonshine school). Maddy seems to look forward to the independence and keeps telling me, "Yeah, but I'll see him on the playground". But, Sam is very much more apprehensive about it and just keeps saying "bad" when I ask him how he thinks he will like it. He loves being around familiar people and feeling like he fits in. I know they will both do great and really flourish, and I am anxious to see how the transition goes.

Philip has really had a busy summer. He has started crawling and pulling up now, which brings a whole new dynamic to the house. Between him and Emily crawling around I have already had to move all pictures in their height reach up to a safe place and block off areas they are not supposed to get to. Pillip also has three teeth and one on the way - which he does not come by easy. They really seem to hurt him and make him a little cranky. This last one will push through before we leave for vacation so he should be good to go then. We are all going to Port Aransas with my family and the kids are crazy excited about seeing the beach.

This will fall the week before they start school, so the next couple of weeks will be the official end to our summer. The fall will bring the three big kids and myself starting back to school. I am starting back up at Blinn this semester and will try to tranfer into A&M so I can get my Education degree that I started after many, many years ago. It will be an exciting (and I'm sure exhausting) time in our house and will start a new phase in our lives.
