The Madness of it All

| | Comments (0)

I have to vent about this - it has really boggled my mind since saw it on Tuesday night. After the kids were in bed, I flipped the TV on while I was doing a little work in my room. The annual CMA (Country Music Awards) were on and they were in the middle of announcing the nominees for Female Vocalist of the Year. I missed a couple of the first names listed, but some of the nominees were Lee Ann Womack, Martina McBride, Allison Krauss, and Grecthen Wilson (bless her heart, I thought - she is SO not going to win). Well, needless to say I about choked on my Royal Dansk butter cookies (curse you, Matthew, for buying that 5lb tin at Sams - but that is whole other issue) when they announced Miss "Let me hear a big hell yeah from the redneck girls like me" Wilson as the winner.

It is unfathomable to me that anyone who has ears could possibly think that Gretchen WIlson could even be placed in the same category as Allison Krauss. But I guess I should not be surprised, considering some of the gems that I have heard on country radio lately. One song was so bad, that I had to listen to the whole thing, report just how bad it was to Matthew and then actually Google the lyrics to see who sang it and read how INCREDIBLY embarrsing the lyrics actually are. Yes, I am talking about you Mr. Trace Adkins. The title of the song should say it all - "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk". I absolutely could not make this stuff up, folks. Here are just a couple of the lyrics gracing our airwaves as we speak:

"At that honky tonk badonkadonk
Keepin' perfect rhythm
Make ya wanna swing along
Got it goin' on
Like Donkey Kong
And whoo-wee
Shut my mouth, slap your grandma
There outta be a law
Get the Sheriff on the phone
Lord have mercy, how's she even get them britches on
That honky tonk badonkadonk"

To quote Alexander during his terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day - I think I'll move to Australia. Wait a second - isn't that where Keith Urban is from - there is nowhere to hide.

A-OK

We had another ultrasound at my doctor's appointment on Tuesday and everything is going better than we could have ever expected. Early in the prengancy, there were some concerns about an antibody that I carry and Matt carries the antigen for, and we were not sure if the baby would survive. We praise God that Philip apparently does not carry the antigen as well, and so everything has progressed wonderfully.

Now, the only thing we have to wonder about is how big he is actually going to be. Dr. Zivney has already "assured" us that "this is not going to be a little baby" and he is now estimated to weigh about 5 1/2 lbs - with 5 more weeks to go until our delivery date. I say bring it on! Matt and I can't wait to hold him in our arms.

Sam, Maddy and Luke are so excited about him coming, especially Maddy. She is already revelling in her upcoming new title of "Big Sister" and Sam loves to put his hands on my belly and feel Philip kicking (which he does constantly!). We have a c-section scheduled for December 22nd, and unless he comes early, we have a fun game plan for that day. Santa Claus will have been to our house early, so when the kids wake up that morning, we will open presents, let them play and then get ready to go to the hospital to have this sweet boy. All of our parents and family will hopefully get to be here, and then the kids will get to go back to Waco with them to start the Christmas holidays off with a bang! Matt, Philip and I will join them in Waco when we are released from the hospital (quite possibly Christmas Day!). It will be the most incredible Christmas that we have shared together. God has given us more than we could have ever hoped for.

Not Just Any Indian

Luke has been learning about Native Americans during November as part of their study of Thanksgiving. This week he has brough several art projects related to that topic, such as a totem pole, head band with feathers and a cool teepee. He was especially proud of the teepee, and when Matthew asked him what kind of Indians had lived in that dwelling Luke repsonded "Just the regular Indians, daddy". After thinking about it for a minute, I saked him if he meant Plains Indians, and again he said "Yeah, just the plain Indians". Matt and I got a good giggle out of that.
