Now We Are Six

I never really understood how true the statement "they grow up so fast" was until I had my own children. On Monday (at 5:20pm to be exact!) our Luke Jackson turned six years old. It seems like it was just yesterday that I was cradling him in my arms and imagining all of the wonderful experiences that we would have together. And now, in the blink of an eye, he is six.
The past few months have held so many milestones for him. In August he started kindergarten at Southwood Valley Elementary . I always thought that I would have such a hard time with him being in school, but he has done so well that it can be seen as nothing but a blessing. He loves his teacher and his school, and is so enthusiastic about learning. He loves art and music, and literally hops into the school building on most days! He had his first field trip today, they went to the fire training school, the park for lunch and the police station. It was his first ride on a school bus ever, and he loved it. Too bad we are so close to his school, or he could ride it every day!
We were able to go to Waco this weekend and share his birthday with our parents and family. I thought about the day that he was born. My mom, Matthew and his mom were all in the room, with the rest of my family waiting just outside the door. To have him in my arms for the first time was the most completely humble feeling I have ever had. I knew that God had given Matthew and I this miracle, but I felt so undeserving of him. Luke has taught me more than I could ever teach him: he has taught me patience, understanding, peace and love without conditions.
