An Evening with Lyle

Matthew and I had the incredible opportunity last night to get to see Lyle Lovett in concert at Rudder Auditorium on the campus of Texas A&M. Lyle's concert was in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Association of Former Students here at A&M.

As always (this is our 5th time to get to see him live) Lyle put on a wonderful show. He and his Quasi-Cosmic Band (as they were introduced) played most of the songs from his latest album, My Baby Don't Tolerate, and many of his "old favorites". He even played one or two that I had not heard yet.
I loved every minute of the concert, my face was sore when we left from the huge smile I had wore for the last couple of hours. Some of my favorite songs of the night were "I Live in My Own Mind", "Pontiac", "Nobody Knows Me" and "Flyswatter".
As is always the case at his concerts, Lyle spent a large part of the concert showcasing his amazingly talented band. In fact, the opening of the concert was the band by themelves for a good five minutes before Lyle even took the stage. I was in awe of how talented each of the members are, but I think my favorite is his cello player.
I always enjoy Lyle's humble and charming stage prescence. He spoke very personally last night about how much he loves A&M and is still involved in many facets of the university, and dedicated songs to his wife and mother who were both there, also.
All in all it was an evening I know I will not soon forget. I am thankful to have a sweet husband who, without hesitation, ordered tickets for me because he knew I could not miss this. And for my best friend who offered to watch the kids without even being asked.
